The Intercontinental Hotel Singapore PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 07 May 2008 00:00
The Intercontinental Singapore stands out in many ways. Not in the least for its location. Many international chain hotels in Singapore are clustered along either Orchard Road, or Marina Centre. Not so for the Intercon. The hotel is nicely seated in the Bugis area, which is nowadays a vibrant mix of modern shops and a department store in the Bugis Junction shopping centre, and a larger area that is home to many small shops, restaurants and a market.

Transportation options are excellent, because next to major roads passing the hotel, there is a MRT train station right underneath the Bugis Junction complex that the hotel is part of.

The rooms in the Intercontinental are very tastefully designed, with a classic feel and a touch of colonial history. The hotel lobby brings an air of relaxation within the busy environment in is located in. A plethora of room options is available, and very special are the shophouse rooms and suites, which are situated in actual old shophouses near to the main building. The original buildings, and the substantive use of old wood, make for a unique old style charm that is unmatched by any modern hotel in Singapore.

The Intercontinental is not one of the cheapest options in Singapore, but offer some of the highest quality rooms, a very practical location, not too far from the main business and shopping areas, and some unique touches that can be hard to find these days.

Booking tips to find the best hotel rates PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 07 April 2008 00:00
It may sound like a strange question to ask, but why do people compare different websites before booking a hotel? The answer to that question may seem simple, but is actually quite complex. After all, why doesn’t a hotel room have the same price on all websites?

The very reason why people compare is indeed because different websites offer sometimes very different prices for hotel rooms. There is a plethora of reasons behind this phenomenon. Hotel rooms are often sold through a chain of multiple wholesalers and retailers, and by tapping into different inventories, and dealing with different channels, price differences will occur in the end. Another reason is that hotel sites control the margin they take on a specific room at a specific time, and this margin will also affect the final price.

The important thing to remember is that prices differ. Often they differ just a bit, but sometimes they do indeed differ by a large margin, and you don’t want to be stuck with that booking before finding out that it can be booked cheaper elsewhere.

Research has pointed out that on average travelers compare three to four websites before they make a purchase. This is a healthy figure, and supports what people have been doing for ages, which is comparing different shops before making the purchase.

Since you will want to weigh your options anyway, we have built a handy tool for you at HotelMinutes.com. We remember the best hotel websites for you, and make it super easy to compare your itinerary across multiple vendors. You only have to type in your itinerary once, after that you just click on your favorite suppliers, to find fast and accurate price quotes for the hotel you are looking for. Could it be any simpler? We don’t think so. Good luck while making your next hotel booking with HotelMinutes.

The Scarlet Hotel Singapore PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 04 April 2008 00:00

The Scarlet hotel is absolutely a unique find in Singapore. Hotels like these are hard to come by, and it is actually a surprise how affordable it is to stay here. True, it is a small hotel, and you will miss some of the amenities that come with the standard business hotel. But what you get back is more than worth it.

The entire hotel (and that includes the staff) follows a theme that is perhaps best described as 'vampire-glitter'. Red and black are the main color tones, while gold, crystal and glass mirrors add to the overall feel. The front desk and lobby staff walk around in matching uniforms, the most striking being the long black coats of the concierges.

The rooms are 5 start worthy, with luxury finishes and LCD tvs. As this is a quite new hotel you will find the quality of the fixtures to be of a high standard. The only gripe perhaps is the size of the rooms, and the lack of daylight in some of them. As the hotel is built in a series of shophouses, space is naturally limited, and this expresses itself in the size of most standard and deluxe rooms. Quite a few of them also have minimal natural lighting, either through a small window or a view through the diagonal roof in some cases.

All in all this is very worth dealing with, as the hotel offers a unique experience, and the overall quality of the rooms and the entire hotel is very good.

The location is not smack in the center of the city, but actually quite strategically towards the business district as well as Chinatown. The MRT is a stiff walking distance away. There are lots of little restaurants and bars in the immediate vicinity though, and the area has a name for small but high quality F&B options.
